What are we asking government to do?
New research shows that the government are spending less money on the funeral fund than they have in ten years. The fund, which was established in 1989 to cover the cost of a basic funeral for families who would be otherwise unable to afford one, has shrunk and now covers less than half the cost of a basic funeral. This pushes grieving families into crippled poverty and debt.
Our #BurytheDebt campaign is calling on the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions David Gauke to raise the funeral fund for grieving families so they can afford a basic funeral.
