Fair Funerals Pledge 2021

Quaker Social Action is thrilled to announce the continuation of the Fair Funerals pledge into 2021.

The Fair Funerals pledge has paved the way for price transparency in the funeral profession since its original launch in 2015.  Since then the pledge has been enhanced and revised to form the Fair Funerals pledge 2020, which 152 individual funeral director branches have now signed.

As we all know, 2020 has been an unusual and challenging year, and therefore the Fair Funeral pledge 2020 has not made as significant an impact as we would like.  However, 2021 is a new year with nothing stopping us from making 2021 the year of Fair Funerals.

The National Association of Funeral Directors and the National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors have revised their Codes of Practice to promote price transparency, and the Competition and Markets Authority has issued an Order forcing funeral directing companies into publishing their prices online.

The funeral profession will be in the limelight, and what better time for companies to demonstrate what they can do for their clients, especially those on low incomes.

The Fair Funerals pledge 2021 will begin with the same requirements as 2020.  Funeral directors who are compliant signatories will be ahead of the expected CMA requirements, demonstrating their awareness of funeral poverty and of the benefits of price transparency for those who are recently bereaved.

Funeral poverty will not go away overnight, but together we can and will make a difference.
