Do funeral directors have to pay any money to sign the pledge?
No, the pledge is a free and voluntary commitment.
Funeral directors that have signed the pledge have the option of purchasing Fair Funerals pledge 2021 logo window stickers:
£5 for 1 sticker
£12 for a pack of 3 stickers
£18 for a pack of 5 stickers

Do funeral directors who have signed the pledge have cheap prices?
Not necessarily.
The pledge requires funeral directors to be open and transparent about the price of their services, third party costs and their standard payment terms. However, they are free to set their prices and payment terms as they wish.
Are funeral directors who have signed the pledge all good quality?
The pledge requires funeral directors to be open and transparent about the price of their services, third party costs and their standard payment terms.
However, the pledge is not a regulating body, and therefore does not monitor the quality or standard of the services provided by funeral directors.

How do you ensure that pledge signatories are compliant with the pledge standards?
When funeral directors apply to sign the pledge we carry out a detailed check to ensure they meet the pledge requirements. If they don’t, we explain what they need to do to become compliant and invite them to contact us again when the changes have been made.
We carry out regular checks of existing signatories and take robust action where any are found to be no longer compliant with the Fair Funerals pledge 2021 standards.

Do all signatories of the Fair Funerals pledge have websites?
It is not a requirement of the pledge for funeral businesses to have a website.
If a business does not have a website, the components of the pledge that apply to them are as follows-
- We will help people to find funerals that are within their means.
- We will be open about the price of our services, including third party costs:
- In initial conversations
- Within our price lists
- We will be open about the amount of any deposit we require, and when this and the final balance are required:
- In initial conversations
- Within our price lists
Please note that funeral directors without a website, but with an alternative online presence, such as social media account (e.g. Facebook), will be expected to display their prices there.
Funeral directors without any online presence, will be required to send a copy of their price lists to for review in order for their signature to be approved.
