Kath Inkpen works as a Campaigns and Research Co-ordinator at Citizens Advice St Helens - she found out first hand how difficult it was to get funeral directors to talk about price.
We really closely with bereaved people who've struggled with funeral costs. They also tell their stories to politicians and on TV, radio and in newspapers, to spread the word and help others avoid the problems they faced.
Funeral poverty is where the price of a funeral is beyond a person’s ability to pay. This problem is getting a lot worse because funerals are getting much more expensive at the same time as support from the government is drying up. Funeral poverty has increased by 50%
in just three years.
